The FBI has announced the safe return of Monica De Leon Barba, a 40-year-old woman from San Mateo, California who was kidnapped in Mexico last November while walking her dog home from work.

De Leon Barba was abducted in Tepatitlán, Jalisco, a city in western Mexico, on November 29th of last year. She had been held captive for eight months before her release on Friday night.

Robert Tripp, the FBI special agent in charge of the San Francisco office, said in a statement that FBI personnel in California and Mexico had worked tirelessly with the family and with partners in both countries to secure her release.

The FBI did not provide any details on what precipitated the release, but said that their work for her freedom was a constant goal during De Leon Barba’s ordeal.

The FBI said that De Leon Barba is now on her way home and expressed their relief and joy at her safe return.

The FBI is continuing to investigate the kidnapping and is asking anyone with information to contact their local FBI office.
