According to a Pence adviser, the campaign is focusing on small-dollar fundraising with direct mail appeals. This method takes more time to show a return on investment, but Pence has received support from some major Republican donors.

Many Republican leaders are concerned about the prospect of renominating President Donald Trump for the 2020 election. Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has said that doing so would be a disaster for the party. However, Trump’s detractors have yet to rally around a single alternative candidate. Polling shows Trump routinely besting his closest rival by 20 to 30 points or more.
