Tragedy struck a Chicago suburb on Saturday night when a 9-year-old boy was killed in a drive-by shooting while attending his grandmother’s birthday party.
Ulysses Campos had been playing with a group of children in an alley in Franklin Park when four to six shots were fired from a moving vehicle, according to Franklin Park police director Michael Witz. Ulysses was struck in the chest and died after being taken to a hospital.
Police have taken a person of interest into custody and have found a car suspected to be involved in the shooting in nearby Leyden Township.
Ulysses’ uncle, Ottilo Campos, told CBS Chicago that his family has placed a cross at the scene of the shooting to remember the boy.
“It’s a tragedy,” Ottilo said. “It’s a tragedy for the family, for the community, for the city.”
