House Committee Releases Transcripts Revealing U.S. Attorney’s Attempt to Charge Hunter Biden with Broader Charges than Agreed Upon

On Thursday, transcripts of two senior IRS agents were released by a House committee, revealing that U.S. Attorney David Weiss sought to charge Hunter Biden on broader charges than the two tax-related misdemeanors he agreed to plead guilty to this week. The transcripts were from two IRS agents who testified in May that FBI officials resisted applications for warrants and that Weiss claimed he couldn’t bring charges in other states without permission from higher-ups.

In response to the new accusations, Attorney General Merrick Garland insisted on Friday that Weiss had the power to bring charges however he wanted. A White House spokesperson also defended President Joe Biden, saying that he had no involvement in the investigation and that Hunter Biden received no preferential treatment.

The investigation into Hunter Biden began in 2018, when the IRS began looking into his taxes. In 2019, the FBI opened a criminal investigation into his taxes and foreign business dealings. In December 2020, the Delaware U.S. Attorney’s office announced that Hunter Biden had agreed to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges.

The transcripts released on Thursday shed new light on the investigation into Hunter Biden and the role of the U.S. Attorney’s office. It remains to be seen if any further action will be taken in the case.
