Anita Baker Announces Split from Babyface on “The Songstress” Tour Due to Cyberbullying

Soul singer Anita Baker announced Tuesday that Babyface will no longer be performing on her “The Songstress” tour due to cyberbullying from Babyface’s fan base.

Baker, 65, tweeted on Tuesday that she will continue the tour alone. She said that Babyface tweeted on May 10 that he was unable to perform as scheduled “in order to give Ms. Baker her space and time to perform her show in its entirety.” Baker pointed to technical difficulties as the reason Babyface couldn’t join as planned, and both artists performed as scheduled.

Representatives for Baker did not immediately respond to a request for comment. However, Baker’s tweet suggested that the cyberbullying from Babyface’s fan base was the reason for the split. She wrote, “After Silently, Enduring Cyber Bulling/Verbal Abuse & Threats of Violence from the Fan Base, of Our Special Guest/Support Act.”

The “The Songstress” tour is Baker’s first tour in over a decade. The tour began in April and is scheduled to end in August. Baker is known for her soulful hits such as “Sweet Love” and “Giving You the Best That I Got.”

The cyberbullying incident is a reminder of the dangers of online harassment. It is unclear whether Babyface will be replaced on the tour, but Baker has made it clear that she will continue on her own.
