At Least Six Killed and 25 Wounded in Overnight Attack in Ukraine’s Kryvyi Rih

At least six people were killed and 25 wounded in an overnight attack in the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih, regional officials said Tuesday.

Gov. Serhiy Lysak of the Dnipropetrovsk region said the attack involved cruise missiles, which hit a five-story residential building. The building was engulfed in fire, and rescue operations were ongoing.

Kryvyi Rih mayor Oleksandr Vilkul wrote on the social media app Telegram that the death toll had risen to a least six, and seven people were feared trapped under the rubble.

The attack comes amid escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia, which have been locked in a conflict since 2014. Ukraine has accused Russia of sending troops and weapons into eastern Ukraine, where a pro-Russian separatist movement is active.

The Ukrainian government has called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the attack. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has also called on the international community to condemn the attack and take action to prevent further violence.
