Texas Sheriff’s Office Recommends Criminal Charges Against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for Controversial Migrant Flight to Martha’s Vineyard

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is facing criminal charges in connection with a controversial migrant flight to Martha’s Vineyard last September.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office in Texas has recommended criminal charges against DeSantis for allegedly using funds from a state program in Florida to pay for the flights that took migrants to the wealthy Massachusetts island.

The Sheriff’s Office has alleged unlawful restraint was involved in the migrant flights. Officials have said they are looking into how migrants “were lured from the Migrant Resource Center, located in Bexar County, TX, and flown to Florida, where they were ultimately left to fend for themselves in Martha’s Vineyard, MA.”

DeSantis released a statement Tuesday touting his state’s record in assisting Texas immigration authorities, including with more than 190 arrests. He did not address the criminal charges recommended by the Sheriff’s Office.

The Governor has been criticized for his handling of the migrant flight, which has been seen as a cruel political stunt. The incident has sparked outrage among many in the state, with some calling for DeSantis to be held accountable for his actions.

It remains to be seen what the outcome of the criminal charges will be, but it is clear that the incident has caused a great deal of controversy and has put the Governor in a difficult position.
