Rap legend Dr. Dre is taking legal action against Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for using his music without permission.
In a cease and desist letter dated Monday, Dre’s lawyers informed Greene that she was “wrongfully exploiting” Dre’s work “to promote [her] divisive and hateful political agenda” and demanded that she immediately stop using his music.
The controversy began when Greene posted a cringe video on Twitter using Dre’s hit “Still D.R.E.” without his permission. In response, Dre released a statement saying, “I don’t license my music to politicians, especially someone as divisive and hateful as this one.”
The video has since been removed and Greene’s Twitter account has been temporarily locked out. Greene, who represents a district in northeast Georgia, has been a vocal supporter of the far-right and baseless conspiracy theory QAnon, and in February 2022 she spoke at a white nationalist event.
Dr. Dre’s legal action against Greene is the latest in a series of moves by celebrities and public figures to distance themselves from the controversial politician. It remains to be seen whether Greene will comply with Dre’s demands or continue to use his music without permission.
