Jury Convicts Man of Second-Degree Murder in 2018 Shooting Death of Tristan Beaudette

A jury in Los Angeles has convicted a man of second-degree murder and other crimes in connection with the 2018 shooting death of Tristan Beaudette.

Anthony Rauda, 46, was found guilty of second-degree murder in the June 22, 2018 killing of Beaudette, a 35-year-old chemist from Irvine. Beaudette was camping with his two daughters in Malibu Creek State Park, about 30 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, when he was fatally shot in the head.

Rauda was also convicted of three counts of attempted murder and five counts of burglary. The jury found Rauda guilty of one count of attempted murder for shooting at a vehicle four days prior to Beaudette’s killing, but acquitted him of seven other counts of attempted murder in multiple other shootings. The shootings spanned nearly two years, from November 3, 2016 to June 22, 2018, in and around Malibu Creek State Park.

Rauda is scheduled to be sentenced on May 28. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The conviction brings some closure to Beaudette’s family, who have been searching for answers since his death. “We are relieved that justice has been served,” said Beaudette’s widow, Erica Wu, in a statement. “We are grateful to the jury for their hard work and dedication to this case.”
