Trump Lawyers Request Meeting with Attorney General Garland to Discuss Ongoing Investigation into Handling of Classified Documents

Former President Donald Trump’s lawyers have requested a meeting with Attorney General Merrick Garland to discuss the ongoing investigation into Trump’s handling of classified documents. In a letter posted to Trump’s Truth Social account, attorneys John Rowley and James Trusty asserted that Trump is “being treated unfairly” and asked for a meeting to discuss “the ongoing injustice that is being perpetrated by your Special Counsel and his prosecutors.”

The yearlong documents probe appears to be nearing an end, with agents and prosecutors reportedly finding boxes of classified files at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago compound in Florida. It is not yet known what prompted the letter, but the investigation is believed to be close to completion.

The letter also criticized the investigation, calling it unfair and requesting a meeting with Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith to discuss the matter. Trump’s lawyers have not yet commented on the letter, but Garland is expected to respond in the coming days.
