Senator Lindsey Graham Urges Continued U.S. Support for Ukraine, Proposes Sanctions on Russia Amid Escalating Conflict

Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina expressed concerns over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine during an interview on “Fox News Sunday.” He emphasized the potential negative consequences of the United States withdrawing support from Ukraine, likening it to the situation in Afghanistan. Graham advocated for continued assistance to Ukraine, including intelligence and military aid, until a ceasefire is achieved. His remarks come amid increased aerial attacks by Russia on Ukrainian territory.

The escalation in hostilities follows the Trump administration’s decision to halt intelligence sharing and military equipment support to Ukraine. Graham warned that without renewed U.S. assistance, Ukraine could face dire circumstances. He stressed the importance of providing Ukraine with the necessary resources to defend itself against Russian aggression.

In addition to advocating for military support, Graham announced plans to introduce sanctions targeting Russia’s banking and energy sectors. He urged Russia to engage in ceasefire and peace negotiations with the U.S. administration. Graham’s proposed sanctions aim to pressure Russia into diplomatic discussions to resolve the conflict.

Fiona Hill, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and former senior director for European and Russian affairs on the National Security Council, also weighed in on the situation. In an interview on “Face the Nation,” Hill discussed the impact of the U.S. pause in lethal intelligence sharing. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russia has conducted numerous attacks using ballistic missiles and drones, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by Ukraine in the conflict.
