Authorities in Iowa have responded to a shooting at Perry High School, located outside of Des Moines. According to multiple law enforcement officials briefed on the matter, the shooter is believed to be dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and may have been a student. Three others were injured, including two students and an administrator, with one of the injuries potentially being fatal.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has responded to the active shooter incident, and President Joe Biden is also tracking the latest on the Iowa shooting. Senior staff have been in touch with the Iowa governor’s office.

Dallas County officials have confirmed the shooting, and two news conferences are scheduled for today. The first will be held at 10 a.m. and will be conducted by the Division of Criminal Investigation, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Perry Police Department. The second news conference is expected to be held in the afternoon as more information becomes available.

Parent Erica Jolliff said that her ninth-grade daughter was rushed from the school and is safe. She added that the school was placed on lockdown and that she was grateful for the quick response of the police.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
