BlendJet Inc. is recalling about 4.8 million of its portable blenders due to laceration and fire hazards. The Benicia, California-based company has received reports of blades breaking off during use and overheating or fires that have resulted in property damage claims of roughly $150,000.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has received 329 reports of blades breaking during use and 17 additional reports of overheating or fires that resulted in about $150,000 of property damage claims. Additionally, there have been 49 reports of minor burn injuries and one reported laceration injury.
The recalled BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders were sold at Costco, Target and Walmart stores nationwide from June 2018 through April 2021 for between $50 and $80. The blenders are white and black, and measure about 8 inches tall and 3.5 inches in diameter. The word “BlendJet” is printed on the side of the blender.
