A man serving life without parole was recaptured Monday morning after escaping from prison in southeast Texas on Sunday afternoon. Robert Yancy Jr., 39, was arrested at a park in Palacios, about 45 miles west of the Texas Department of Corrections’ Clemens Unit.
According to Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesperson Amanda Hernandez, two civilians recognized Yancy and called police. Yancy was convicted in 2022 of sexual abuse of a child in Victoria County and is currently serving life without parole.
Hernandez said two people, including Yancy’s mother, are suspected of helping him escape. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
Yancy was taken to the Brazoria County Jail and is awaiting transfer back to the Clemens Unit. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has not released any further information about the escape or the investigation.
