On Wednesday, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) was the site of a shooting that left multiple victims and the suspect dead. The incident occurred on the fourth floor of the UNLV business school building, where 18-year-old freshman Jose Lopez was watching YouTube videos.
Lopez described hearing shots ring out and feeling his legs shake with fear. He ran to the third floor and hid in an academic advisory office with other people, where they barricaded the door until police arrived and escorted them to safety.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill said that there were at least three victims, but the number could change. He also said that the suspect was dead.
McMahill wrote on social media, “Right now, we know there are 3 victims, but unknown extent of the injuries. We will update you when we know more. Please continue to avoid the area and watch for responding emergency units.”
The shooting has left the city of Las Vegas, which is already home to the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, in shock and terror. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident and will provide updates as they become available.
