Six people were killed and three injured in a multi-city shooting spree that unfolded across Texas on Tuesday, before a suspect was taken into custody and charged with capital murder.

Interim Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson said at a news conference early Wednesday that officers responding to a burglary call found a man in a home’s backyard Tuesday evening. She said that the “series of violent incidents” began in the morning “and extended into the evening.”

Four people were killed and two police officers shot in Austin on Tuesday, authorities said. The suspect fled but later crashed the vehicle he was driving and was taken into custody. According to Henderson, they exchanged fire and one officer suffered non-life-threatening wounds and was taken to a hospital.

The suspect, who has not been named, was also linked to the deaths of two people in San Antonio, they added. The suspect was charged with capital murder and is currently in police custody.

The victims of the shooting spree have not yet been identified. The Austin Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident and is asking anyone with information to contact them.
