Key takeaways:

  • The RNC set the threshold for the debate at the highest level yet, requiring candidates to have at least 6% support in two national polls or 6% in one early-state poll.
  • The debate will be the fourth of twelve debates during the primary season, and will be hosted by Fox News and moderated by Bret Baier, Martha MacCallum, and Bill Hemmer.
  • The debate will take place Wednesday night at 9:00 PM EST, and will feature the smallest field yet to take the stage during the GOP primary campaign.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) announced Monday that the fourth GOP presidential primary debate will have the smallest stage yet, with just four candidates taking the stage Wednesday night at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

The RNC set the threshold for the debate at the highest level yet, requiring candidates to have at least 6% support in two national polls or 6% in one early-state poll. Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Former Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley, and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy were the four who met the qualifications.

Christie’s campaign announced last month that he had reached the 80,000 unique donors also required to qualify. His campaign appeared to qualify only a short time before Monday night’s deadline, reaching at least 6% in the necessary national and early-state polls.

The RNC’s threshold for the debate is the highest set so far, and the smallest field yet to take the stage during the GOP primary campaign. The debate will be the fourth of twelve debates during the primary season.

The debate will be hosted by Fox News and moderated by Bret Baier, Martha MacCallum, and Bill Hemmer. It will take place Wednesday night at 9:00 PM EST.
