Judge Denies Motion for Mistrial in $250 Million Civil Fraud Case Against Former President Donald Trump

A New York state judge has denied a motion for a mistrial in the $250 million civil fraud case against former President Donald Trump. Judge Arthur Engoron ruled on Friday that the motion was “utterly without merit” and that arguments on the motion would be “futile”.

Trump’s attorneys had filed the motion on Wednesday, alleging that Engoron and his law clerk, Allison Greenfield, had demonstrated bias against the former president. Trump and his lawyers had also been critical of the judge and clerk, claiming they had favored New York Attorney General Letitia James’ side in the case.

In his ruling, Engoron described Trump’s rationale for halting the trial as “disingenuous”, “made in bad faith” and “nonsensical”. He also said that the premises of the motion were flawed and that the clerk had not acted improperly.

The trial, which began on October 2nd, is expected to last another two months. It is being heard in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of New York. The case is being brought by the New York Attorney General’s office, which alleges that Trump and his company, the Trump Organization, misled investors in a failed real estate project.

Trump has denied the allegations and has sought to have the case dismissed. The judge has yet to rule on that motion. The trial is ongoing and no verdict has been reached yet.
