The victim, 27-year-old Tatum Goodwin, was found dead in an alleyway near her place of work in Laguna Beach on Sunday. According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Rojas-Moreno approached Goodwin as she was by her car in a parking lot around 1 a.m. and assaulted her. He then allegedly dragged her to a secluded area behind a movie theater that was under construction and beat her with the fire extinguisher.
Local ABC affiliate KABC, citing court documents, reported that Rojas-Moreno is accused of using a fire extinguisher as a weapon in the woman’s death. It was not clear whether Rojas-Moreno and Tatum had any prior relationship, the office said.
Police did not specify a motive in the killing, and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office said that a motive was not clear from their statement. Rojas-Moreno is currently being held in Orange County Jail without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on October 21st.
