The Council Bluffs Police Department in Iowa has arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the alleged sexual assault of former Senator Martha McSally (R-Ariz.). McSally reported the incident on Wednesday, saying that she had been grabbed from behind while jogging near Omaha, Nebraska.

Dominic M. Henton of Papillon, Nebraska, was wanted for one count of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse in connection with the attack. McSally described the incident in a video posted on Facebook, saying that a man had come up behind her and “engulfed her in a bear hug.” Surveillance footage released by police showed the suspect following the former senator on a paved pedestrian walkway.

McSally said that she had chased the suspect into the brush and called 911 while she waited for police to arrive. Henton was taken into custody by the Omaha Police Department around 3:23 a.m. Friday.

McSally served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019 and was appointed to the U.S. Senate in 2019. She lost her re-election bid in November 2020.

The Council Bluffs Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident and is asking anyone with information to contact them.
