Seven people, including a child, were injured in a shooting that took place Sunday night at a college homecoming event near Prairie View A&M University in southeastern Texas.
Waller County deputies arrived at the scene just after 10 p.m. local time on Sunday night and found seven people who had sustained gunshot wounds to their bodies. The event, a trail ride pasture party that was attended by over a thousand people, was hosted during Prairie View A&M’s homecoming weekend, about 2 miles from the university’s campus.
The Waller County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post on Monday morning that the shooting happened during a “trail ride pasture party” that was held together with another party celebrating homecoming at Prairie View A&M University.
A university spokesperson said, “Although this was not an official PVAMU homecoming event and was unaffiliated with the university, our campus community is deeply concerned for those injured and all affected by this incident.”
The Waller County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the shooting and is asking anyone with information to contact them. No suspects have been identified at this time.
