U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has expressed his disapproval of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s handling of the Palestinian sovereignty issue. During an appearance on “State of the Union” on Sunday, Sanders said Netanyahu was incapable of dealing with the “horrendously complex issue”.

Sanders also commented on the recent attacks by Palestinian militant group Hamas, saying that Israel has the right to defend itself. However, he criticized the “extreme” and “racist” right-wing policies of the Israeli government.

In response to Sanders’ comments, Palestinian American Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib posted a video on social media site X featuring footage of pro-Palestinian protests from across the country, as well as remarks from President Joe Biden expressing his support for Israel. The video ended with Tlaib saying, “We will remember in 2024,” followed by the text: “Joe Biden supported the genocide of the Palestinian people.”

In a tweet, Tlaib wrote: “From the river to the sea is an aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and peaceful coexistence, not death, […]”

Sanders concluded his remarks on Sunday by expressing his hope that Israeli voters will “get rid of” Netanyahu and “put in a government which understands the severity of the crisis.”
