On Friday, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Robert Card, the suspect in the mass shootings that killed 18 people in Lewiston, Maine, had been found dead.
Card, a 40-year-old firearms instructor, had been named a suspect in Wednesday’s mass shooting at two businesses in Lewiston. His body was found by law enforcement near a recycling plant in the Lisbon area, about eight miles southwest of Lewiston.
Hundreds of state and local police and federal agents had been involved in the manhunt since the shootings Wednesday night. Law enforcement officials had also surrounded a house in Bowdoin, a small college town, for several hours Thursday night.
The shootings occurred Wednesday evening at Schemengees Bar and Grille and the Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley in Lewiston, a city of around 37,000.
