Nashville, TN – The four day manhunt for the estranged son of Nashville’s police chief, John Drake Jr., 38, ended Tuesday night when he was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) said that authorities responded to a location in the 1400 block of 15th Avenue South in Nashville Tuesday night in the search for Drake. They heard a “muffled gunshot from an outbuilding,” and found him deceased from “what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the TBI said in a statement.

Drake had been wanted in connection with the shooting of two officers outside a Dollar General store in La Vergne, a city about 20 miles southeast of Nashville, on Saturday. Metro Nashville Police spokesman Don Aaron said Drake had stolen a car at gunpoint from a home southeast of downtown Tuesday night, WSMV-TV reported.

The two officers, who were both shot in the leg, were treated and released from a hospital. It is unclear what led to the shooting.

The TBI said it is continuing to investigate the incident and will release more information as it becomes available. No further details have been released at this time.
