A man shot and wounded himself Monday when officers sought to question him about four escapees from a Georgia jail, according to Bibb County Sheriff David Davis.
The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force had gone to a Macon apartment after investigators got a tip about someone who might have information about the escapees. When a SWAT team arrived, a woman inside the apartment led them to a wounded man.
The man, identified as Christian Demond Williams, had been missing for more than seven months after supposedly being kidnapped. Sheriff Davis said that Williams is not one of the escapees, but he believes that Williams has knowledge of where they might be, knowledge of the escape, and a connection to at least one or two of the people they are looking for.
The four men escaped from the Georgia jail on October 16. On Friday, deputies found a blue Dodge Challenger abandoned in the parking lot of a Macon supermarket that they believe was involved in the escape.
The investigation into the escapees is ongoing. Sheriff Davis said that the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is working with other law enforcement agencies to locate the escapees and bring them to justice.
