Two police officers in La Vergne, Tennessee were shot Saturday afternoon while investigating a stolen vehicle outside a Dollar General store. The suspect in the shooting has been identified as John C. Drake, Jr., 38, the son of Metro Nashville Police Department Chief John Drake.

LaVergne Police Chief Christopher Moews said officers Ashley Boleyjack and Gregory Kern were investigating the stolen vehicle when they struggled with the suspect, who pulled a handgun and shot them. Boleyjack and Kern were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The City of La Vergne released images of Boleyjack and Kern, both of whom have been with the La Vergne Police Department for several years. Boleyjack has been with the department since 2016 and Kern since 2015.

The search for Drake is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to contact the La Vergne Police Department at 615-793-7744. Police are warning the public not to approach Drake if they see him, as he is considered armed and dangerous.
