Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) voiced his strong support for President Joe Biden’s proposed $106 billion aid package for both Israel and Ukraine during an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation” Sunday morning.
McConnell, who began his latest term as Senate Republican leader in 2021, also addressed concerns about his health and ability to continue performing his congressional duties, saying he has “completely recovered” and is “back on the job.”
The lawmaker noted that a significant portion of the aid package is being spent in the United States in 38 different states, replacing the weapons that were sent to Ukraine with more modern weapons.
When asked about Republicans who resist the joint aid, McConnell said he viewed Ukraine and Israel as “interconnected.”
“I know there are some Republicans in the Senate, and maybe more in the House, saying Ukraine is somehow different,” he said. “I view it as all interconnected.”
McConnell’s support for the aid package comes as the Biden administration seeks to strengthen ties with both countries and bolster their defenses against Russia. The package is expected to be voted on in the Senate in the coming weeks.
