On Wednesday morning, a Texas woman charged with the murder of an elite cyclist attempted to escape custody, according to officials.
Kaitlin Armstrong, 35, is charged with the fatal shooting of 25-year-old professional cyclist Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson in Austin in May 2022. She was being escorted to a correctional vehicle following an off-site medical appointment when she ran, said Kristen Dark, a public information officer with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.
Two corrections officers never lost sight of Armstrong and were able to catch up with her and restrain her, Dark said. She was then transported back to the Travis County Correctional Complex.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Unit. It is unclear what disciplinary action, if any, will be taken against the officers involved.
Armstrong is currently being held at the Travis County Correctional Complex on a $1 million bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for June 2022.
