Chicago resident Dorothy Hoffner, 104, passed away on Monday morning at the Brookdale Lake View senior living community. Hoffner was a remarkable woman who could have potentially been certified by Guinness World Records as the oldest person to ever skydive.

Joe Conant, a nurse and Hoffner’s close friend, met her several years ago while working as a caregiver for another resident at the senior living center. Conant said Hoffner had an amazing energy and remained mentally sharp. She was not someone who would take naps in the afternoon or miss any functions, dinners, or activities.

Hoffner’s skydiving adventure occurred in August, when she jumped out of a plane at the Skydive Chicago facility in Ottawa, Illinois. She was accompanied by her son, daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters.

“She was so excited,” Conant said. “She was so proud of herself. She was so proud of her family for being there with her.”

Hoffner’s skydive was documented by a professional photographer and videographer, and the footage was sent to Guinness World Records for review. It is possible that Hoffner will be certified as the oldest person to ever skydive.

Conant said Hoffner was an inspiration to many. “She was an amazing woman,” he said. “She was a role model for all of us.”
