President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Other Democratic Leaders Gather in San Francisco to Honor the Late Senator Dianne Feinstein

Hundreds of people gathered in San Francisco on Thursday to honor the late Senator Dianne Feinstein at a private memorial service. The service, which was held on the steps of San Francisco City Hall, was attended by President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California.

The memorial service was originally planned to be open to the public with standing space in Civic Center Plaza, but was changed to a private event due to security concerns. Security was high as invited attendees passed through a screening upon arrival before taking their seats in front of City Hall. There were also a number of street closures in effect around the building to accommodate the hundreds who were seated on Post Street for the memorial in addition to a wide security perimeter around the event.

Feinstein, the oldest member of the Senate, the longest-serving female senator and the longest-serving California senator, died early Friday at the age of 90. President Biden will deliver a tribute to Feinstein’s life and legacy by audio message, while the other Democratic leaders will make remarks in person.

The memorial service was a fitting tribute to Feinstein’s remarkable political career, which began at San Francisco City Hall. Feinstein was a trailblazer in her field, and her legacy will live on in the many accomplishments she achieved during her time in office.
