Pop star Lady Gaga has won a lawsuit filed against her by Jennifer McBride, one of the five people involved in the theft of Gaga’s dogs. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Holly Fujie ruled in favor of Gaga on Monday, noting McBride’s involvement in the theft and her plea of no contest.
McBride had attempted to sue Gaga for the reward money, which Gaga had offered publicly, in addition to over $1.5 million in damages for breach of contract, fraud by false promise and fraud by misrepresentation. The complaint alleged that Gaga never intended to pay the reward money and intended for law enforcement to ask questions about the return of the dogs.
Judge Fujie gave McBride 20 days to amend her suit, but ultimately ruled that the suit was “legally insufficient in its entirety.” The judge’s ruling on Monday concluded the lawsuit.
Gaga’s two French bulldogs, Koji and Gustav, were stolen in February while being walked by the singer’s dog walker, Ryan Fischer. Fischer was shot during the incident and the dogs were later recovered unharmed. Five people were arrested in connection with the crime.
Gaga thanked the public for their support and offered a $500,000 reward for the return of her dogs. The reward was eventually claimed by an unnamed woman, who has not been identified.
