Robert Wayne Lee, 40, also known as “Boopac Shakur” to his more than 50,000 Instagram followers, was killed on Friday following a confrontation at a Pontiac restaurant. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Lee had employed a method he had used in other confrontations posted on social media.
Lee had accused an 18-year-old male of being a pedophile, and was accompanied by a 17-year-old. The confrontation “rapidly escalated” when the 17-year-old pulled out a pistol and fired, fatally wounding Lee.
Lee had become well-known for his “To Catch a Predator”-style content, in which he posed as a 15-year-old girl to lure potential predators and get them arrested. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said that this tactic was considered dangerous.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the incident. No arrests have been made at this time. Lee’s family has not yet released a statement.
