Baltimore police are searching for Jason Dean Billingsley, 32, who is wanted on a charge of first-degree murder in the killing of Pava LaPere, CEO and founder of EcoMap Technologies. LaPere was found dead with apparent “blunt-force trauma” at an apartment building on Tuesday evening.
Acting Police Commissioner Richard Worley urged residents to be aware of their surroundings at all times. “We implore residents to be aware of your surroundings at all times,” Worley said at a news conference.
Billingsley was previously serving 30 years in prison for a sex crime before being paroled last year. His mother, Scarlett Billingsley, 72, said she spoke with her son over text message Tuesday and urged him to surrender to police. “I told him to turn himself in because they’re going to kill him,” she said.
Police said Billingsley is likely armed and dangerous. They are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact the Baltimore Police Department.
LaPere was 26 years old and had recently founded EcoMap Technologies. Her death has left her family and friends in shock. “It’s just a tragedy,” said a friend of LaPere’s. “She was so young and had so much potential.”
