Former President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter Return to Plains, Georgia for the Annual Peanut Festival

Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, made a surprise visit to the Plains Peanut Festival in Georgia on Saturday. The Carter Center shared a video of the former President, 98, and former first lady, 96, riding in a black SUV at the festival.

The Carter Center CEO Paige Alexander said in a statement that the former president and first lady “care deeply about their hometown, and it’s great to see them feeling the love from their neighbors and friends in Plains.” The Carter Center also said, “We’re betting peanut butter ice cream is on the menu for lunch!”

Peanut farming was a mainstay of the former president’s upbringing in Plains, Georgia. After their marriage, Rosalynn Carter worked in the peanut business, managing the accounts of the peanut, fertilizer, and seed. Peanut butter is also the former president’s favorite ice cream flavor.

The Plains Peanut Festival is an annual event that celebrates the town’s peanut farming heritage. The festival features a variety of activities, including a parade, live music, and a variety of food vendors.

The Carter Center said it was a beautiful day for the former president and first lady to enjoy the festival. It is always a pleasure to see the former president and first lady back in their hometown.
