Two adults are dead and more than 40 people are injured after a bus carrying students from Farmingdale School District in Long Island, New York, rolled over Thursday afternoon.
The bus was one of six carrying the Farmingdale High School marching band and their chaperones to band camp in Greeley, Penn. Five or six students were in critical condition after the bus, which was transporting 40 students and four adults, fell down a 50-foot ravine.
At a news conference Thursday evening, New York Governor Kathy Hochul said the crash may have happened due to a mechanical issue. The bus driver, who was among the injured, is cooperating with authorities.
Gina Pellettiere, 43, of Massapequa, and Beatrice Ferarri, 77, from Farmingdale, were identified as the two adults who died in the crash. The injured were taken to various hospitals in the area, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
