Convicted Killer of Two Elderly Women in Dallas County Killed in Prison by Cellmate

Dallas, TX (AP) – A man convicted of killing two elderly women in Dallas County was killed in prison Tuesday morning by his cellmate, according to a spokesperson for the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.

Billy Chemirmir, 50, was found dead in his cell at a Texas prison, said Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokeswoman Hannah Haney. The cellmate, who is serving a sentence for murder, was identified as the assailant, but the cellmate’s identity and how Chemirmir was killed were not released.

Chemirmir was accused of killing nearly two dozen older women and preying on them in the Dallas area over a two-year span, stealing their valuables. In October 2022, a Dallas jury found him guilty of capital murder in the death of 87-year-old Mary Brooks. He was caught after a 91-year-old woman survived an attack in 2018 and told police Chemirmir had forced his way into her home.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice said it is investigating the incident and will take appropriate action. No further information was released.

Chemirmir’s death marks the end of a two-year investigation into the deaths of elderly women in the Dallas area. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office said it is committed to ensuring justice is served for the victims and their families.
