A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy was fatally shot in an ambush while in his patrol car outside of the Palmdale sheriff’s station on Saturday night.
Sheriff Robert Luna identified the victim as Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer, 30, who was found unconscious in his car at 6 p.m. and rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
At a late night press conference, Luna said the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear, but it appears the deputy was targeted simply because “he was in uniform.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is currently searching for the suspect, and no theory has been eliminated for the motive. Luna said the deputy was “just driving down the street and for no apparent reason — and we’re still looking into the specific reasons — somebody decided to shoot.”
The area outside of Palmdale has been taped off as authorities investigate the incident. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone with information to contact them.
