Today, Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Delaware on charges related to his purchase of a firearm in October 2018. The four-page indictment includes three felony counts stemming from his possession of a Colt Cobra 38 special revolver.
The first count of the indictment alleges that Hunter Biden “knowingly made a false and fictitious written statement” on a form used for firearms purchases. Specifically, Biden certified on the form that he was not an unlawful user of any narcotic drugs, a statement that was “false and fictitious,” according to the charging document.
Biden’s legal team has maintained that he had entered into a binding non-prosecution (or diversion) agreement for the gun charges, and they intend to hold the government to it. This plea agreement, however, fell apart in a dramatic way in open court.
The indictment comes after a lengthy investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). If convicted, Biden could face up to 10 years in prison for each of the three counts.
The Biden family has not yet commented on the indictment. It is unclear at this time what the outcome of the case will be.
