In an exclusive interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” moderator Kristen Welker, former President Donald Trump said it is “very unlikely” he would pardon himself if he wins another term in 2024. Trump added that he believes he did nothing wrong. The interview, Welker’s first as moderator of “Meet the Press,” will air Sunday on NBC affiliates across the country.
When asked if he would pardon himself if reelected next year, Trump hesitated to give a straight answer. He said he could have preemptively pardoned himself before leaving office in 2021, but chose not to, even though such a power was untested and questioned by legal scholars.
“Don’t ask me about what I would do,” Trump said. “I could have ― the last day, I could have had a pardon done. That would have saved me all of these lawyers and all of this these fake charges. I didn’t do anything wrong.”
NBC News has also extended an invitation to President Joe Biden to sit down with Welker for an interview. Tune into “Meet the Press with Kristen Welker” this Sunday for more from Welker’s exclusive interview with former President Donald Trump.
