Two leaders of the Proud Boys street gang were sentenced to lengthy prison terms in federal court on Thursday for their roles in the violent plot to overturn the 2020 election in favor of Donald Trump on January 6, 2021.

Joseph Biggs, a former correspondent for Alex Jones’ Infowars, was sentenced to 17 years in prison by U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Kelly in Washington. Zachary Rehl, former head of the Philadelphia chapter of the Proud Boys, was sentenced to 15 years.

The sentences come after prosecutors sought 20 years in prison for both Biggs and Rehl. The sentences are roughly half of what prosecutors sought.

Biggs and Rehl were two of the more than 300 people charged in connection with the attack on the U.S. Capitol. The attack was the culmination of a months-long effort by Trump and his allies to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

The sentencing of a third Proud Boy, who smashed a Capitol window with a stolen police riot shield, is scheduled for Friday morning.
