A 43-year-old man has been arrested and charged with stalking actress Drew Barrymore after he was found searching for her Long Island home.
Chad Michael Busto, 43, of Washington, D.C., was arrested Thursday just before midnight by Southampton Town Police in New York. Busto had been spotted the previous day riding a bicycle down private driveways in the village of Sagaponack, where Barrymore owns a home, and telling people that he was looking for her residence.
Police said in a news release that Busto was suspected of stalking Barrymore due to previous incidents involving the actor. On Friday, Busto pleaded not guilty to the charge, telling News 12 Long Island: “I believe we have a connection in our past and I met her after [the music festival] Lollapalooza at her hotel.”
The arrest comes just days after Busto made an unsettling appearance at an event hosted by Barrymore in Manhattan. He reportedly crashed the on-stage panel and was later questioned by officers before being released.
Busto is due back in court on August 6th. If convicted, he faces up to one year in jail. Barrymore has yet to comment on the incident.
