A Texas woman was arrested last week and charged with sending a threatening and racist voicemail to the federal judge in Washington, D.C. who was randomly assigned to oversee the Justice Department’s election interference case against former President Donald Trump.

Abigail Jo Shry, of Texas, was ordered detained Wednesday after she allegedly left a voicemail for Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is Black, on Aug. 5. According to a criminal complaint filed last week, the voicemail said in part, “You are in our sights, we want to kill you.”

The affidavit, filed in federal court last week and first reported Wednesday by Bloomberg Law, also alleges that Shry made similar threats against Democratic leaders in the voicemail.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia said in a statement that the voicemail was “racially charged and threatening in nature.”

Shry is charged with one count of making a threat against a federal judge. If convicted, she faces up to 10 years in prison.

The case is being investigated by the FBI’s Washington Field Office and is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
