Former Vice President Mike Pence expressed his support for the newly appointed Hunter Biden special counsel, U.S. Attorney David Weiss, in an interview on “Meet the Press” on Sunday. Pence said he hopes Weiss will do his job fairly without any political influence.
Pence also accused federal law enforcement officials of having pushed a “political agenda” under the Trump administration and vowed to “clean house on the whole top floor of the Justice Department” if he is elected president in 2024.
In response to the appointment of Weiss, Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) expressed her disapproval. Last September, a group of 31 Senate Republicans, including Blackburn, asked specifically for Weiss to be appointed to oversee the probe to “provide additional assurances to the American people that the Hunter Biden investigation is free from political influence.”
Pence also referred to the chairs of Republican-led House, Rep. Jim Jordan and Congressman James Comer, saying he has confidence they will continue to do their job for the American people.
The Justice Department’s investigation into Hunter Biden is ongoing. It remains to be seen whether Weiss will be able to conduct the investigation without any political influence.
