Former President Donald Trump and Associates Indicted on Racketeering and Election Fraud Charges

Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis has announced that a grand jury has indicted former President Donald Trump and more than a dozen of his associates with election fraud, racketeering and other charges related to alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

The indictment, handed up to the judge around 9 p.m. and made public just before 11 p.m., names Trump as the top defendant and 18 others, including Rudy Giuliani, his former lawyer; John Eastman, a conservative lawyer; and Mark Meadows, former White House chief of staff.

The racketeering charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. Trump is also facing numerous conspiracy charges. If convicted, he would be the first former president in U.S. history to face criminal charges.

Trump and his associates are accused of engaging in a “criminal enterprise” to overturn the election results in Georgia. This includes allegedly attempting to pressure state officials to “reverse the results of the 2020 presidential election” and “manufacture false claims of voter fraud.”

The indictment is the latest in a series of legal issues that have plagued Trump since he left office. He has now been charged in four separate cases involving allegations that bookend his presidency. District Attorney Willis has stated that her office is committed to pursuing justice and holding those responsible for any criminal activity accountable.
