Wife of Manhattan Architect Arrested in Connection to Gilgo Beach Serial Killings Speaks Out: “My Children Are Heartbroken

Asa Ellerup, the estranged wife of Manhattan architect Rex Heuermann, has spoken out about the tumultuous past few weeks since her husband’s arrest in connection to the Gilgo Beach serial killings. Heuermann was arrested on July 13th and charged with three counts of murder in the deaths of three women, and is the prime suspect in the disappearance of a fourth woman.

In an interview with the New York Post, Ellerup said her two adult children are heartbroken and cry themselves to sleep. She also said she has “no answers” for them when they ask about her husband’s arrest. Ellerup has since filed for divorce.

Heuermann is set to appear at a 2 p.m. conference hearing, where the court is expected to go over evidence and talk with witnesses. The group of women whose discoveries raised fears about a serial killer in the area were known as the “Gilgo Four.”

The investigation into the Gilgo Beach serial killings has been ongoing since 2010, when the first of the four women was discovered. Since then, investigators have been searching for the perpetrator of the killings, and Heuermann’s arrest has been a major breakthrough in the case.
