Tragic Death of 17-Year-Old Magnus White, Rising Star in Off-Road Cycling Scene, Announced by USA Cycling

USA Cycling announced the tragic death of 17-year-old Magnus White, a rising star in the off-road cycling scene, on Saturday. White was killed while training for the Junior Men’s Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, which he was scheduled to compete in on August 10, 2023.

White had previously competed with the U.S. team in Europe ahead of last year’s cyclocross world championships, and he was picked to represent the U.S. again at this year’s cyclocross worlds in the Netherlands. He had also won a junior national championship in cyclocross in 2021.

USA Cycling said in a statement that White was “focused on his final preparations before leaving for Glasgow” when he was struck by a vehicle on a training ride near his home in Boulder, Colorado. The organization praised White for his “passion for cycling” and “camaraderie with his teammates and local community.”

The Boulder Police Department is investigating the incident. No further details have been released at this time.

White’s death has been met with an outpouring of grief from the cycling community, with many taking to social media to express their condolences. USA Cycling said it is “deeply saddened” by White’s death and is offering its “sincerest condolences” to his family and friends.
