Key takeaways:

  • Devon Archer testified about calls between President Joe Biden and his son
  • Chairman James Comer said the value of adding Hunter Biden to Burisma’s board was “the brand”
  • After two hours of testimony, there was still no connection between Hunter Biden’s business dealings and President Biden

The House Oversight Committee heard testimony from Devon Archer, a former business partner of Hunter Biden, on Monday. Archer gave details about calls between President Joe Biden and his son as he testified about his business dealings with the younger Biden.

Chairman James Comer said Archer testified that the value of adding Hunter Biden to Burisma’s board was “the brand” and said that the then-vice president brought the most value to “the brand.”

Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) said that after two hours of testimony, there was still no connection between Hunter Biden’s business dealings and President Biden. The president has repeatedly denied ever discussing business with his son, who for years sat on the board of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma after Archer.

Archer served alongside Hunter Biden on the board of Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company, beginning in 2014, while the elder Biden was vice president and deeply involved in Ukraine policy. However, the two hours of questioning in a Capitol office building yielded no evidence of any wrongdoing.

The House Oversight Committee’s hearing with Archer is the latest in a series of attempts by Republicans to link Hunter Biden’s business dealings to acts of corruption by the president. However, after two hours of testimony, it appears that the committee has not been able to make any such connections.
