Tina Knowles-Lawson Files for Divorce from Actor Richard Lawson After 8 Years of Marriage

Tina Knowles-Lawson, fashion designer and mother of superstar singers Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, has filed for divorce from actor Richard Lawson. According to Los Angeles court documents obtained by TODAY.com, Knowles-Lawson cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split and listed Tuesday, July 25, 2023, as their date of separation.

Knowles-Lawson took the surname when she married Mathew Knowles, father to their two daughters, in 2009. The pair split in 2009 after more than three decades together, finalizing their divorce in 2011.

In addition to asking the court to terminate the court’s ability to award spousal support to her or Lawson, Knowles-Lawson also asked for her last name to be restored to Knowles.

The couple married on April 12, 2015, and had been together for eight years. They had shared several photos of their relationship on social media, including a March photo of when they celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary.

The divorce filing comes as a surprise to many, as the couple had appeared to be in a happy relationship. It is unclear what the future holds for the couple, but it is certain that the divorce will be closely watched by fans of the Knowles family.
