California Appeals Court to Consider Reviving Dismissed Lawsuits Alleging Michael Jackson Sexually Abused Two Men as Children

A California appeals court is set to consider reviving the dismissed lawsuits of two men who allege Michael Jackson sexually abused them as children for years. The two men, Wade Robson and James Safechuck, became more widely known for telling their stories in the 2019 HBO documentary, “Leaving Neverland.”

The suits were filed after Jackson’s 2009 death by Robson in 2013 and Safechuck the following year. In 2021, Superior Court Judge Mark A. Young ruled that the two corporations and their employees had no legal duty to protect Robson and Safechuck from Jackson.

The appeals court is now considering whether to reverse the lower court’s decision and order the cases back to a lower court for trial. The court appears likely to make the move after a tentative decision.

Robson and Safechuck have both testified in court that Jackson sexually abused them for years when they were children. They have both said that Jackson groomed them and their families, and that they were too scared to tell anyone about the abuse until after Jackson’s death.

The appeals court’s decision will be closely watched by both sides of the case. If the court decides to revive the lawsuits, it could open the door for Robson and Safechuck to finally get justice for the abuse they suffered.
