After a manhunt lasting over 24 hours, authorities have confirmed that the suspect accused of killing four people in a Georgia suburb just south of Atlanta on Saturday has been killed.

Henry County Sheriff’s spokesperson Syntonnia Moore said the suspect, 40-year-old Andre Longmore, was fatally shot during a widespread search. Moore said law enforcement forces killed Longmore in a nearby area of Clayton County, adding a Henry County sheriff’s deputy and a Clayton County police officer were injured in the attempt to arrest Longmore.

Officials said Longmore shot and killed three men and one woman in Hampton around 10:45 a.m. Saturday. Law enforcement tracked the suspect to a location in the area and exchanged gunfire with the suspect twice before he was “neutralized” and ultimately declared dead, the sheriff said.

Henry County Sheriff Reginald B. Scandrett said at a news conference Sunday afternoon, “The monster is dead.” He thanked the officers involved in the manhunt and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.

The investigation is ongoing and authorities are still working to determine a motive for the killings. No further information has been released at this time.
